What you need to know about PaaS

Most businesses are familiar with cloud computing and its ability to deliver agility, scalability, convenience of anywhere access and drive down costs. However, there is a compelling case for organisations to venture further, utilising “Platform as a Service” (PaaS) to further accelerate innovation.

PaaS accelerates the development and deployment of a variety of applications, whether web-based or mobile, B2B or B2C.

What exactly is PaaS?

PaaS is a cloud-computing platform that is provided online by a cloud services vendor. The platform allows organisations to deploy and run business-critical software in the cloud, without ever having to worry about purchasing, installing or maintaining a sophisticated IT infrastructure: you just get to focus on your business, everything else is done for you, as an on-demand pay-per-use service.

The news adds to other recent data showing that the UK economy is putting the economic crisis years behind it.

The PMI stood at 58.4 in November, its highest since February 2011. A reading over 50 indicates growth.

This decision was taken at a recent BIFM Board meeting at which the potential merger was thoroughly reviewed. After careful consideration the board took the decision to withdraw from the merger discussions as it was felt that the current merger plans were not in the best interest of BIFM and its members at this time.

Local authorities demand suppliers meet CHSA specifications

The number of local authorities specifying the Cleaning & Hygiene Suppliers’ Association (CHSA) Manufacturing Standards Accreditation Scheme for plastic refuse sacks has risen significantly during 2013.

“The escalation in the number of those specifying that their suppliers meet the criteria of the scheme has risen because of the rigour of the scheme and the increase in awareness of it,” said David Garcia, chairman of Polaris Plastics and member of the CHSA council. “Earlier this year we increased the rigour of the scheme and it has paid dividends for both members and buyers of plastic refuse sacks.”
