“Anyone who can’t introduce barcode technology in to their business wants their heads looking at!” That’s the forthright opinion of John Dunham, MD of Alfred Dunham and Sons Builders Merchants, based in North Derbyshire and a very happy Merlin user.
How can John be so forthright? Does he head a large corporation? Does his company have the transactional through-put of a high street supermarket? Simple answer – no. Far from it.
In truth, John’s company is anything but these. Dunhams are the quintessential British village builders merchant and family business with a small yard and a handful of dedicated staff. However, Dunham’s commitment to using technology to its fullest potential has achieved a feat that some companies twice their size (and greater) have failed to master.
In a meeting with John today, to explore other features and benefits with optional Merlin modules, John declared “…it’s so easy to set up stock records in Merlin with bar code information – it makes it so easy to scan them over the counter.” “…it cuts out the problem of entering the wrong item through the counter terminal and ensures the customer pays the right price for the product.” “…in fact, anyone who can’t introduce barcode technology in to their business wants their heads looking!”
Jonathan Townsend, General Manager, also added “..its so simple to associate a new barcode to its stock records even at the counter as you’re actually serving the customer.”
Only 18 months in to their new Merlin system John Dunham commented “…we’re really enjoying it – we’re finding Merlin great to use.”
