H Butterfields Ltd are a Luton based builders merchants offering an excellent service to a wide variety of customers providing daily deliveries from their Luton depot covering a 50 mile radius and generally supplying contracts to all parts of the country.
In addition to the core heavy side building materials supplied to the construction and civil engineering industries, Butterfields supply a wide range of building products from their large site. Ranging from the aggregates, bricks, blocks, cements, and plasters supplied as standard, through the extensive range of landscaping bark, chippings, paving and topsoil, to timber, natural stone, marble, granite, tiles, industrial clothing and footwear. The trade counters and showrooms in each specialist division offer service and advice essential to the building and allied industries.
Butterfields had operated a software solution for Merchants for many years. However, the company that supported this system had been taken over; resulting in fears that support would be withdrawn. Butterfields therefore were seeking a system that would not only continue to provide all the good features of their original system, but also give a modern range of functionality to take the business into the future. Vitally important also, was the need to maintain and improve upon efficiency of the Trade Counters, Telephone Sales and Stock functions, bearing in mind the huge range of diverse products held and processed by the system. Other priorities included the need for accurate management reporting, and high speed performance to serve the large number of users on the system. Also vital to Butterfields, was the need to deal with a supplier who could support and develop with them well into the future.
After meeting with several solution providers and reviewing their software, Butterfields chose to implement Merlin Business Software. It met all of Butterfields requirements, and they felt confident that Merlin had the team to support them into the future. The new system was smoothly implemented early in 2004.
